In coal-fired thermal power plants, solid material management involves several operational phases concerning both the fuel and combustion residues. These include ash (fly ash and bottom ash), coal dust, and solid recovered fuel (SRF), which is increasingly used in co-combustion processes.

Pulverized coal is the primary fuel for the production process and requires dedicated systems for grinding, transport, and boiler feeding, operating under controlled conditions to ensure continuity and efficiency.

Ash, generated by combustion, must be collected, conveyed, and managed through specialized plants, often in environments characterized by a high presence of dust, abrasiveness, and critical operating conditions.

Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), derived from the treatment of non-hazardous waste, is used as a supplement to traditional coal. Its management requires particular attention during handling, dosing, and feeding stages, in order to ensure operational safety and process stability.
